Post VD: Race for a Cure

Wow! So that's what it's like to throw an alleycat. I think I shall do it again.

I know I had an amazing time, and judging by the tired, but happy, faces of all the racers, they had a good time.

It was a beautiful day to have a bike race. Warm sun, and just enough of a breeze to keep everyone cool.

20 riders showed up to cure their Valentines Day blues, although there were a few couples scattered in amongst the crew. From racer/racer to racer/checkpoint manager. At exactly 2:00pm the festivities got started and the racers sped off to the manifest point. This is where things left my control, but if things went according to plan, the race went such. At the manifest point, a cardboard box was constructed and the manifest was obtained.

VD:Race for a Cure Manifest

Complete in any order!
Everything must be in the box!

#1 Whaleback Park
Write a love haiku
7-5-7! thems the rules.

#2 North Area Drainage Pond
Pick up a prophylactic

#3 Pioneer Park
Pick up some flowers

#4 Gazebo in the Arboretum
Pick up some tasty choco

Slide Hill Park for the finish!!

Of course no one read the manifest. The rules!!!! Always know the rules!

So first up, here's a selection of the haikus. Yes, haikus are supposed to be 5-7-5 but I failed when I looked them up on wiki. But I covered my ass by making it "my rules haikus".

Here's some boys playing nice.

Are they forgetting that there's no bonus points for helping some one get to the finish line before you?

Dude, next time get to the race on time!

From here pics are a little hard to come by, but I'll get some soon. The grand finale is what we all want to see anyways.

First....

One haiku written by a rider for his girl (wo)manning the checkpoint.

The award ceremony was a lot of fun. Took a while for all the riders to show up. The first 2 riders were in a good half hour before the next rider, and we had to wait another 15-20 minutes for them. So over about an hour and a half we waited for everyone to straggle in. The poor kids from Sac. went half ways to Winters before realizing their mistake.

Eli and Bruno took first place. Dead tie. Sounds liked Eli relied on Bruno's excellent pathing skills and his own speed to keep up with Bruno's wiles.

Erik took fixed, although well behind the first overall. He also took home best trick prize.

Michele took home first girl, and had a harrowing brush in with Johnny Law. I guess people riding around with boxes in Davis is pretty sketch.

The two kids from Sacramento took DFL.
