March Fourth

What a day. I spent 7 solid hours shooting the protest here at UC Davis. This opportunity is amazing for me, as someone who wants to get into photojournalism. To get to have these actions in my own figurative backyard is rare. And the fact that UCD has no journalism school cannot work out better for me if it tried. I'm like the only freakin' photographer so often. When the march started, there were quite a few, but they dropped off after the protesters left the police line out Old Davis Road. And then I was one of two photographers covering the arrestee's release. I was one of only a handful covering the sit in at Anderson and Russell. I know I'm tooting my own horn a lot, but damn. It felt good to be there.

I know there's a lot of chatter about the methods of the protesters, but dammit people. They're protesting something that every single human being should be out protesting. Education is a right! And the education system in California, and as it is all over the world, is in peril.

So here's a bunch of photos I took during the day. If anyone wants to give me a 24-70/2.8 because they love me, I would love them back. But for now, I guess that 30 is fine. I just have to run up right into everything all the time. Teaches me the meaning of this Capa quote, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough".
